Over the last 2 years there has been a dramatic increase in dental disease (1, 2) as well as a rise in the number of people experiencing insomnia around the world (3). Difficulty for access to dental care has compounded dental disease while anxiety, poor health and restriction to all health care have impacted heavily on sleep quality, and therefore on the integrity of people’s Immune System (4). These key areas of sleep and dental health are intrinsically linked and when they are in poor condition well-being deteriorates. This reduction in health has left people at greater risk for poor outcomes from Covid-19 (5).
In an attempt to address these concerns online models for telehealth have been suggested. These have been supported by the results of academic studies from around the world, not only for medical management but also for oral health management (6). However we see very few options in place within Australia that can deliver combined care for insomnia and for dental health.
