Community Health Freedom is an organisation committed to helping people who cannot easily access oral healthcare.
Community Health Freedom understands the important connection between sleep quality and dental disease.
Community Health Freedom aims to bridge the gap, addressing the lack of knowledge in this area by providing clear, concise and patient friendly information to those in need, via a team approach.
OUR MISSION
All effective healthcare requires a team approach.
Community Health Freedom brings together practitioners in the fields of sleep and oral health.
The team available to help the community includes:
Our lead practitioner who has a Master’s Degree in Sleep Medicine from Sydney University, as well as over 30 years in Oral Health management.
Sleep physicians: medical specialists whose practice is limited to the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders.
ENT and Respiratory physicians who can assess and advise on breathing difficulties and structural airway issues.
Nutritionist to assist with management of insomnia and weight loss
Sleep psychologists: medical practitioners working in the field of managing insomnia
Disrupted sleephas become all too common during the pandemic. During the last 2-3 years periods many people have experienced periods of extreme stress. Clenching, grinding and facial pain has increased dramatically during the pandemic so it is important to tease apart the sleep disorders from the stress disorders. This takes time and skilled and attentive listeners.
Sleep is an important time when the body rests and repairs itself. Without good sleep our bodies do not repair and we start to experience more disease and more pain. It is during sleep that breathing, heart rate, blood pressure and body temperature all reduce. It is also when blood sugars are stabilised and metabolism changes, this prevents weight gain
Access to face to face dental care has also been heavily impacted during the pandemic. Many people are now learning to live with their “new normal” of poor sleep, facial pain, jaw pain, headaches and compromised wellbeing. In a post pandemic world these seemingly less important conditions are either being ignored by Governments or with the reduced financial resources of many patients these health concerns will be downplayed as we struggle to manage day to day living expenses.
Through the process of targeted discussion and referral between our practitioners Community Health Freedom helps people to identify and address the different components of their sleep and oral health disorders. In time this breaks down the parts in to manageable pieces to facilitate learning.
Through knowledge people can empower themselves to rebuild their health and well-being.
